Description: Onikumo, the Demon Spider, came about as a result of Pono's expirimentation with Mariposa's environment. The spider terrorized the villages of Riki and Kotoshi nearly 750 years ago, until a wandering tribe of clerics close to the Empress sealed it away inside a massive, active volcano. Neither Onikumo or the volcano posed a threat to either village again, and the volcano, Mt. Kopu-Kopu, became a holy site and a protector of the two villages. Those living in Riki Village, closer to the mountain, were sworn to be protectors of this most holy seal.

However, when the threat of the Warriors seemed to rise, Pono ordered the giant spider unsealed from his confinement. His henchman, Tsunu, blew a hole in the side of the mountain, and released Onikumo from his volcanic lair. This was attributed by the villagers to the presence of Natane, who they suspected of witchcraft after learning of her otherworldly origins. She and Pariku, her rescuer, were nearly sacrificed to Onikumo in fulfillment of Pono's dark plans, but an unlikely turn of events culminated in the demon spider's ultimate defeat by the newly-formed Warriors of the Sun and Stars.
